Only for members with a specific role?
Let only members with a certain role create and join temporary channels.
Two things decide who can use temporary channels: who can join the Creator Channel, and who can see and join the channels Horizon creates. Set up both. Otherwise members without the role can still create a channel, or join someone else's.
1. Who can create channels
Horizon creates a channel for everyone who joins the Creator Channel and doesn't check roles at that point. Restrict the Creator Channel itself in Discord: open its settings and set these permissions:
| Role | View Channel | Connect |
|---|---|---|
@everyone | Deny | |
| Your role(s) | Allow | Allow |
| Horizon | Allow | Allow |
Why Horizon needs its own allow
Horizon is part of @everyone too, so the deny applies to it as well. It needs to see the Creator Channel and move members out of it, so also allow Move Members for Horizon.
If the Creator Channel is synced with its category, you can set the permissions on the category instead.
2. Who can join the channels
Open the Dashboard, pick your server, open Generators, choose the generator and scroll to Who can join:
- Add the role under Access Roles.
- Set Visibility for non-role members to Hidden from others.
Members without the role can't see or join the temporary channels anymore. See Who Can Join for all options.
Good to know
- With several roles, add all of them in both places. A member only needs one of them.
- Owners can still let single members in with
/trustor/inviteuser, even without the role. Turn off Trust / Untrust and Invite in Owner Tools if you don't want that. - Members with an Immune Role can always see and join temporary channels.
- Running a verification system? Using a verification system? covers the same setup with category permissions and an alternative without Access Roles.
